San José, March 19: The European data center company Polarise has announced a major investment of several hundred million NOK to establish Norway’s most advanced AI Factory at Gardermoen. The facility, named AI Hub ONE, was officially unveiled today at NVIDIA’s GTC conference in San José, California, and is set to become operational in spring 2025.
“The demand for computing power is growing exponentially, and the need for cutting-edge data centers has never been greater. At the same time, the industry’s energy consumption remains high, which is where we see an opportunity. Polarise is committed to delivering the industry’s most energy-efficient data center, strategically located in Norway—home to Europe’s cleanest electricity,” says Michel Boutouil, CEO of Polarise.
Polarise specializes in developing and operating next-generation, sustainable data centers. AI Hub ONE, currently under construction at the Oslo Airport City (OAC), will leverage proprietary technology that significantly reduces energy consumption while enhancing performance.
In addition, a strategic partnership with Statkraft Varme will ensure that the excess heat from the facility is utilized by the district heating network, providing 100 percent renewable energy to, among others, Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL).
– We build and develop energy systems for a sustainable society at Gardermoen. The fact that the excess energy from AI Hub ONE can be supplied to our energy hub to heat our customers is, in our view, a smart use of energy. We are proud to deliver 100 percent renewable district heating at Gardermoen," says Ove Berggård, CEO of Statkraft Varme.
Polarise Expanding in Norway
The team at Polarise has extensive experience in establishing data centres worldwide and has ambitious plans for expansion in Norway. The company is actively scouting for new strategic locations in addition to its Gardermoen facility.
“Norway presents a unique opportunity for large-scale, sustainable data centers. With abundant clean energy, a strong regulatory framework, and world-class infrastructure, we see AI Hub ONE as just the beginning of our long-term investment in the region,” Boutouil adds.
“This is also a significant opportunity for Norway and its municipalities. Data centers require no government subsidies, attract substantial private investment, create jobs during both construction and operation, and generate tax revenues. In addition to creating valuable energy in the form of excess heat for the nearby community and industries. Norway has everything it takes to become a global leader in this sector.”
Europe Must Keep Pace in the AI Race
Today, the artificial intelligence market—and the high-tech data centres that power it — is dominated by American and Asian players. Polarise, an official NVIDIA NPN partner, is taking a bold step to change that.
“In an era of geopolitical uncertainty, it is crucial for Europe to take control of its own data. Artificial intelligence requires an entirely new level of digital infrastructure and Polarise is positioned to deliver precisely that—with unmatched efficiency and performance,” says Boutouil.
“If we want to maintain our digital habits—streaming Netflix, sending emails, running critical infrastructure, and driving research—we need computing power. The rise of AI is accelerating this demand at an unprecedented rate. Europe must act now, and we believe our approach—combining the industry’s most advanced technology with Europe’s cleanest energy—offers the ideal solution.”
